Photo Friday pt 2, and Race Goals
She had a lumbar puncture with chemo, plus some iv chemo, Thursday morning.
Then, last night, we started the pills (including The Steroid).
Good LORD the pills.
13 total. Can you imagine taking 13 pills?! She's usually pretty good about taking one or two. But 13 required some creativity.
Mix them in pudding? Can't, no dairy. Give them with her fave, orange soda? Nope, can't have citrus either. That's cute.
Solution?
Whatever. It worked.
Sheesh.
So, this 10k this weekend. I've been pretty unexcited about it. I was going to run "with" the H (and by with, I mean, we would both be there, and he'd have to hang out forever waiting for me to drag my ass across the finish), but he's been battling some Achilles funk. Then Rose said she was running, but now she's not. And I am just... Meh about it. I dunno.
But the weather is supposed to be perfect - low 60's, overcast. It's on the FLAT beach path. Packet pick up is at the running store (and I ALWAYS need and excuse to go there). So... I mean. I guess I will. I have to get my speed work in sometime anyway, right?
So....
Goal A: 1:02. I think I can do this....
Goal B: Beat my Cypress time of 1:06:05. I've TOTALLY got that.
Goal C: Don't die. Pretty sure I can manage it.

I've mentioned a few times how tough it has been to lose weight while running - you all know what I'm talking about. I don't really focus a ton of effort towards it... more, I'm just mindful of what I'm eating, and how it will fuel my body. I weigh myself, maybe once a week or so... sometimes more, sometimes less, but not really on any specific pattern, and more out of curiosity. For me, being healthy is so much more important than what I weigh. I know that number on the scale doesn't take into account the calves or quads I've gained over the last year.
But this.... this REALLY hit me.
These two pictures were taken exactly one year apart...

I don't really have anything to say... Photo Friday!
This weekend I have my first tri swimming lessons, and I'm super pumped. Even if I have to wear this nonsense.
Hm. Even Gab doesn't look convinced that this is a good idea.
Random pictures found on my phone this week....
I seriously dislike these stick people. But dancing stick people!? Even worse.
5pm. I know. I'd hate me too.
Okay, this is a little awkward, but WHY can I not ever find pants that just fit me properly? Is that too much to ask? WHY?
PSA: This stuff is vile. So terrible.
I was a little bit in love with this skirt, but couldn't justify it. But it's SO GREEN.
And finally...
I don't know.

Photo Friday!
I told you I wasn't kidding. Conspiracy.
Random stuff found on my phone...
Really? Who does that?
Thanks for the direction.
#2. Sure, honey, you can get a toy.... Oh. A Gladiator suit, with sword. Of course.
I see this guy on the freeway at LEAST a few times a week. I'm not even sure what he's preaching, because just looking at his truck makes me twitchy - there's so much stuff happening. But I figure it's nothing I want part of, if crazy dude chooses to hang out on the freeway at rush hour.
Man. They were SPAZZING about taking a picture together. Was it really that awful? Jeez.
Finally....
If we were friends, I'd bring you a beer too, after you had a baby.

Photo Friday
Hopefully, just a few visits should cure me. Definitely not a stress fracture (PHEW!), just some jacked up peroneal tendons. I've got a heap of exercises to do at home, some stretches, and I should be back to running late next week. And, good to go for the Corona del Mar 5K June 4th.
Psyched.

Following this...
The H: Are you ready to walk with us and listen?
Gabby: No.....
Mmmhmm.
I tried cycling at the gym for the first time last night. Holy cow, you guys. That is BORING. I side-eyed The H the entire time, while he ran.
It won't stop me from trying to get in an hour or so tomorrow.
Other new things I'm playing with?
We'll see how that goes... hiking this weekend looks sketchy, at best.
If you haven't already, go support EMZ!! She's crazy, and amazing.
Have a great weekend!

Waiting for our nurse at CHOC yesterday. There, like, aren't even words. She looks so content and peaceful.Crazy.
So, she didn't need a transfusion. In fact, her numbers were OUTSTANDING. I think the best they've been yet. So, in return, she got a super high dosage of chemo. That ought knock her around a bit. Sigh.

I tried really hard to get a picture of this, but I just couldn't, so I drew it instead. I got out of the shower a few weeks ago, and saw this in the steam on the mirror:
I assumed #1 did it, because it was kind of high. #2 couldn't reach that high. So, because I'm very, very funny, I wrote this back....
See?! Funny!
Then, #1 comes out after a shower.
And looks like this....
All... "What is happening in the mirror?"
Right. Because she didn't write any of that.
The H did.
And now she thinks we're total weirdos.
I can't imagine why.

Today? I am grateful.
When Gabby was transferred from the ER to the children's hospital, they marked on the transfer form as the reason for transfer, as "At Risk for Death". My heart sunk. I didn't know what was going on, but I couldn't imagine anything worse than her being at risk.
And when we got her diagnosis, it was breath-taking. Awful. But it's always been balanced, even when things are tough, by knowing that she's HERE.
A good friend of mine lost her son earlier this week, unexpectedly.
Hug your kids. Hug your SO's. Hug your friends. Be grateful.

Happy List: Photo Friday Style
You know that's right.
I picked out all of the non-red and non-pink gummy bears. Just a bag full of pink and red goodness left.
I use this cup constantly at work. It's pink, and glittery, and hey, did I ever tell you about that time I ran a half marathon? 'Cause, it was awesome.
Have you ever shopped at Zulily? I can't stop buying things. I mean, I bought a few things, then a bunch of friends that I referred bought stuff too, so I got credit ($15 for each friend that ordered!), so I spent those credits. I'm finally out, 3 orders later... I think the madness is over, but seriously. SUCH great deals sometimes.
I ran four miles last night, and KILLED my last 4 mile time. Destroyed, actually.
SUAR commented on my post yesterday. She's pretty much my hero, so I was giddy.

Photo Friday
Last night, I ran, and it was hard, and I did a hill program, and it was magical. That's all I'm going to say until I recap the Cupcake Marathon (that I broke into a zillion teeny runs).
AFTER my magical run, I made pizza for dinner. Because all good moms make their kids dinner at 8:30pm, right? Right?!
One of the side effects of Gabby's chemo is that she might not want to eat. So to combat that, I'm into making her food look funner than it might actually be. And so was born, the Mickey Mouse Pizza.
It kind of worked. She ate some of it.
Sadly, the sky did not really listen to me yesterday when I asked the rain to go away, because I started my drive in this...
But, halfway to my office, it was this, with a rainbow even...
By the time I got to my office? Sunny and beautiful.
Cute, So Cal. Verrrry tricky.
This weekend, I think I'm skipping the group run (again?!) for PCRF to do some garage saling or something. The H was pretty stoked about it, so I suppose I'll go along. (Just kidding, I love garage sales).
I'm also heavily into spring break trip consideration... I would like to bring #1 back to Catalina, but dude. It's a zillion dollars for the ferry (Or, $70 per adult, $50 for kids), and the hotels are unreasonably priced. And non-hotwire-able. Then I considered Sequoia National Park, 'cause it's National Park Fee-Free week that week, but I started reading all these stories about snow and road closures and needing chains, and escorts. That looks shady. So, I'm at a loss. Any ideas?!
And, hey, it's the last day for my GU and Road ID Giveaway! Click HERE to enter!
