Friday: Crappy 6 miler. Seriously, it was tough, and for no good reason. My legs just never got into it. 1 mile warm up, 4 miles @ 10:55 pace (basically easy pace for .9, fast for .1), and 1 mile cool down. NORMALLY, speed work would make this fun. NORMALLY, I love speed work. Friday, I just wanted to stop and walk. Actually, I *did* stop and walk. Twice in the first warm up mile. Lame, who does that?! Anyway, first and last mile were about 12:30 pace, so... LAME.
Saturday: San Diego Zoo. 3 miles, hilly walking. Super fun, despite a realllly rocky start to the drive down (fact: breakfast sandwiches may have been thrown. And not by the kids. I don't even know...). Gabby bought some binoculars...
...which she used to watch TV with later. Duh.
Then we played Cranium Jr...
...until I fell asleep on the floor at 11:30. LAME.
Sunday: 8 miles, slow and easy. I was kinda nervous going in, because the 6 miles REALLY sucked, and then I walked the zoo Saturday (and I'm NOT JOKING about the hills. If you've never been to San Diego Zoo.... I guess you'll just have to believe me?). But it was fine. First 5 at 11:40 pace, last 3 at 10:50. I've always assumed 11:30 was my easy run pace. 10:50 didn't seem any harder than 11:40. Interesting...
She had some gift cards burning a hole in her pocket, so we headed out to the mall and then Michaels to use them. But only part of them; that chick is a cautious shopper.
She asked for a Panda cookie cake. I won't be quitting my day job any time soon, but... not too shabby!
Then our cousins came over, and played some dancing thing on the Kinect...
(I think I'm alone in this, but I find the Kinect INCREDIBLY creepy. It knows what you're doing! Freaky.)
And, interestingly, Gabby's hair looks like it's going to be pretty curly! It was stick straight before chemo!
Exciting, right? I want another long weekend.
**********************************************************
Plan for the week!
Last week, I ran 19 miles! All of it, pain free!
This week...
Tuesday: 6 miles easy
Thursday: 5 miles, 6x400
Saturday: 10 miles
At some point in the last 6 months, I forgot all about the joys of foam rolling! I did a ton of it after Friday's 6 miles, and after Sunday's 8, and felt NO leg fatigue, no pain, nothing.
Sometimes, I'm a little slow...
Thank you for your awesome card through the card exchange. Your blog has become a new favorite of mine as I run for children with cancer. I run for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation and I am a Registered Nurse of 13 1/2 years who has worked with children like your Gabby in the past. I am so glad to have "met" you through the exchange.
ReplyDeleteSo glad your running is going well. don't sweat the bad one (what a pun!), we all have them. Ah, yes, foam rolling pleasure!
ReplyDeleteThe holidays sounded and looked fun, especially the binocular TV watching. ; )
Loving the hair! Just keep Gabby away from the clippers. (Yes, I'm still freaked out about that dream. It was weird!)!
ReplyDeleteFoam rolling, I keep forgetting too .... wonder where mine is hiding !!!!!!
ReplyDeleteloved your recap - I hate when runs suck - guess it just happens sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI keep getting tempted to try the foam rolling - you many have just convinced me!
Can you invite me over to play on the Kinect? I think it is cool that it knows your movements. Cool not creepy. ;) My place is the size of a tuna can so I don't even have room to get one of these to try out.
ReplyDeleteGabby's hair is growing out so nicely. I like the color!
Time with family is great. After college, I chopped off my hair to a pixi cut and eventually let it grow back. Ever since, it's been curly too! I don't know why. Just got it cut again and without the extra weight, it's curly again.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like my kind of NYE. We went to the movies {to see New Years Eve} then had dinner at Red Lobster. We were at home and playing video games while drinking champagne by 8pm. We barely made it to midnight :)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
I would have liked to have been a fly on the windshield (inside, mind you) for that breakfast sandwich incident.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the panda cake. It's adorable ... and I am now craving that white icing.
ReplyDeleteMy hubs says the same thing about the Kincet, it freaks him out, but is fun to play.
ReplyDeleteMy sil's hair came in curly too, glad Gabs is doing good.
I haven't tried the foam thing in a long time.
Keep working at the running! You're doing great, especially if it's making you a little tired. That's the only way to improve. Glad you had fun at the zoo. Binoculars are fun- wait 'til she figures out all the things she can watch with them. Harriet the spy?
